Return from Espaneria plus Great Lunden Wallhanging

Espaneria

So, I’m back from Espaneria (possible spelling of The Midderlands version of Spain).
I took a week off to holiday on the south coast of Spain. Visited Gibraltar and saw some of the workforce… to be honest they were arsing around in the sun, eating fruit, pickpocketing, and picking at each other.

We walked in to the Siege Tunnels and The Nook! An elevated cannon platform blasted out of the rock. The Nook is about third of the way up the picture. You can see two small openings for the cannons to fire out of.

The next day, back in Torremolinos and in-between Pokemon-chasing, we saw some nice cannons at Battery Park. My first Uber was booked to get back from there!

On the flight back last night (darkness), I saw Madrid all lit up as we flew slightly east of it. It’s bloody huge!

Great Lunden Wallhanging

Anyway, for those of you interested in keeping up with The City of Great Lunden, I ordered a wall hanging to allow me to keep track of the upcoming Kickstarter writing… Got it from RedBubble (currently set to private as it’s still WIP) — It came out lovely (51″ x 60″). It will be great in play/playtesting.

This will be available from RedBubble once the new Kickstarter goes to preorder stage.

Poster Maps, Buildings and Witches

Poster Maps

I know I have talked about the poster maps for The City of Great Lunden a little bit, but I have now created a couple of 3D mock-ups to help explain it better.

This has so far been a colossal undertaking.

In this first image, all the maps to the bottom of the screen are front, and the ones to the top of the screen are reverses.

MonkeyBlood_0426

They are (BL-BR, then TL-TR):

  • Full City Map (no annotations)
  • Inner Wards Map (annotated)
  • Sewer Network (annotated)
  • Rooftop Chase (no art yet)
  • Enlarged Full City map (NE) (annotated)
  • Enlarged Full City map (NW) (annotated)
  • Enlarged Full City map (SE) (annotated)
  • Enlarged Full City map (SE) (annotated)

All these maps are A2 (folded to A5).

…and because the Enlarged Full City maps are on the reverse of all the other 4 maps, they can be assembled together to create an A0 map.

MonkeyBlood_0425

As an aside, this is a low-resolution version of the ward map that will go in the rear endpaper. It shows all the ward names, with a ward summary to the left:

Map 09 Great Lunden A4 WARD MAP r1 LORES

Buildings

And here are all the current elevations done for the ‘detailed’ structures (18/20). I am so happy with how these have turned out.

The Street

Keep your eye out for the Kickstarter coming in Mid-march, and all this AND MORE can be yours.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS POST AND/OR THE IMAGES
(WITH ATTRIBUTION TO THIS POST).

And to Close… The Gateway to Hell

A couple of midderfolk pointed me to this Guardian article… I told you there were witches afoot!

“If there is a gateway to hell, a portal from the underworld used by demons and witches to wreak their evil havoc on humanity, then it could be in a small east Midlands cave handy for both the M1 and A60.”

Locations in Great Lunden

Stabb’s Meats

Jacob Stabb always hangs his ‘deal of the day’ outside his abattoir in Slaughter Ward. His wife keeps telling him not to kill any animals that run off right outside the front — the blood puts folk off.

Coming Soon

There will be 20 building elevations like the above, 17 are complete and coloured. 1 left to colour, 2 left to ink and colour. They will be an A5 page of elevation, an A5 page of floorplans, and an A5 page of game info – That’s 60 pages alone.

Each one will be marked on the main maps, so your players can find it easily.

The poster maps are proceeding well now with the main map 98% complete:

GL map

There will be 4x A2 maps which are enlarged quarters, as well as a slightly more zoomed in inner wards map. Those are created and just need labels adding.

The sewer map is completed now.

That’s it for now. #shattered.

Sewer Map WIP – City of Great Lunden

The City of Great Lunden is the most ambitious single project I have ever worked on from a mapping perspective…

#themidderlands #themidderlands3 #thecityofgreatlunden #cityofgreatlunden #kickstarter.

With a Kickstarter campaign now planned for launch early-mid March, now is the time to start generating as much hype as you can. Please feel free to post information about The Midderlands — any adventures you’ve played/ran, any reviews, general shout-outs of spontaneous joy, etc. And please, please, please mention the upcoming Kickstarter. This is the kind of things that helps generate exposure and secure funding.

In terms of poster maps (A2), there should be:

  • (85% complete) Great Lunden and its Environs.
  • (75%) Great Lunden Enlarged NE region (with streetnames and such).
  • (75%) Great Lunden Enlarged NW region (with streetnames and such).
  • (75%) Great Lunden Enlarged SE region (with streetnames and such).
  • (75%) Great Lunden Enlarged SW region (with streetnames and such).
  • (75%) Great Lunden Inner Wards
  • (60%) Sewer Network (Inner Wards only).
  • (0%) Rooftop Chase map.

The Ward Map (99%) will be the rear endpaper (so A4):

I have been working on the sewer map today:

The book that accompanies all this is planned to be a 192 to 224 page A5 hardcover like the other Midderlands books.

It will also feature all these cool buildings I’ve been drawing too… with information about who owns them, adventure seeds, and layouts.

THIS will be the book that the 13-year-old me would have drooled over and loved! You won’t want to miss it.

Merch’ in the Mail

So, I’ve been pretty remiss about some things I have received over the last few months, and wanted to shout some out… Some I have been lucky enough to be involved in, and some… just because!

Stuff

Halls of Judgment
Gaming Ballistic – Doug Cole

For the GURPS Dungeon Fantasy system. I did some cartography for this project. I also did some later maps for a revised Dragon Heresy version released soon. It looks lush, and it’s always great to work on projects with Douglas Cole and Juan Ochoa.

I did some maps. Check it out here: https://gamingballistic.com/product/hall-of-judgment-print-pdf-bundle/

Familiars of Terra
Angry Hamster Publishing – Elizabeth Chaipraditkul

By the fantastic Elizabeth Chaipraditkul, of WITCH: Fated Souls, and Afterlife fame. She has also worked for some established publishers on big IP’s, such as She Bleeds (LotFP), and 7th Sea (John Wick Presents).

Familiars of Terra is a tabletop roleplay game set in Terra, a fantasy world in which every person has an animal familiar. As a heroic Seeker you travel the lands with your familiar healing the devastation of a war which left nations scarred and people scattered. Be a beacon of hope ushering in a new era for Terra. Help restore the land to its former beauty, bond with your familiar and discover your joined destiny, become a hero people will sing about for years to come!”

I did the map. Check it out here: https://www.angryhamsterpublishing.com/fot/

WitchPig Deck of Many Things

So, I knocked up some quick tables for using WitchPig decks for the Deck of Many Things. Get it here: WitchPig Deck of Many Things r1

Don’t worry if it doesn’t display correctly, the WordPress built-in viewer makes the text squiffy sometimes. Just download it and it should be fine.
