Rancid Canyons of the Floating Death Sheep

An adventure with versions for 5E, Swords & Wizardry, and Dungeon Crawl Classics. Coming to Kickstarter in early 2022.

Rancid Canyons of the Floating Death Sheep is a low level adventure available in three rule variants: Fifth Edition (5E), Swords & Wizardry* (S&W), and Dungeon Crawl Classics** (DCC) and therefore can be used in all retro-clones and old school role-playing games with little or no work.
The adventure features the following.

  • The detailed village of Yarrowbone featuring NPCs and 22 locations (can be used as a base for any future adventure).
  • Immersive NPC and building art.
  • Six pieces of cool cartography.
  • Three new juicy magic items.
  • Seven tricky new adversaries.
  • Five engaging mapped encounter locations.
  • Table of additonal adventure hooks.
  • Table of NPC names.
  • Information on fitting the adventure into the Lost Wyrld setting of The Midderlands.

This project was successfully completed a little while back, but I have been very remiss in not blogging about it. The good folks over at Necromnacer Games/Frog God Games contracted me to work on a 5E version of The Midderlands book. Edwin Nagy handled the 5E conversion on behalf of the Frogs, and I handled the new colour artwork/cartography, and layout.

It’s a beautiful book and I am so pleased with how it came out. You can also get a really swanky cloth/foil Limited edition if you are quick (read the webstore product entry to find link).

Back in 2017, James Raggi commisisoned me to create a 128 page ‘map book’. I spent the next 13 months of evenings and weekends (I was working full time doing something completely different) researching and drawing 17th century plans, strutcures, buildings, ships, etc. Things happened in between and final release dates faltered along the way, but now it lives! I completed all artwork, writing and layout for the project and it’s come out lovely.

So, why not check them out and head over to the prospective webstores and pick them up. You won’t be disappointed!!

Need Maps? Of course you do! Last Few Days!

500+ backers! Over 550% Funded! Two stretch goals down!

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all doing well.

We just wanted to let you know that the last few days of the campaign are upon us.

HandyMaps Dungeons, Caves & Strange Locales

So, we have currently funded a set of twenty four (24), double-sided A5 cards showing beautifully illustrated dungeons, caves and strange locales for fantasy-themed games. The cards can be used as valuable tools for game planning by Game Masters.

Whilst there are 24 cards, they detail a total of 60 locations for you to populate and your players to explore.

The cards will be double-sided in a handy A5 size (210mm high x 148mm wide OR 8.27″ high x 5.83″ wide) from 350gsm uncoated card stock (giving a nice matt finish, suitable for ink and pencil marking).

Each side will be professionally digitally printed on a parchment style background.

The maps will all have a basic grid and minimal text labels (generally kept to elevation marks, stairs/slope directions, secret doors, etc), but NO title, room numbers, or compass allowing Game Masters to use them as they need for their campaigns.

Also, a great opportunity to pick up previous HandyMaps too!

Against the Darkmaster Adventure

The fabulous folks over at Open Ended Games asked me if I would write an adventure for Against the Darkmaster (also known as VsD). I said yes of course! So keep your eyes peeled for The White Watchtower as part of a campaign series coming soon.

I pixellated this so you wouldn’t spoil the surprise!

Already having backed the KS for the glorious hardback, and having read through the Core Rules, I LOVE this system and setting! Let’s hope the hardback gets a reprint soon too.

Friends of the Monkey Shout-out!

This past couple of months have been sooo busy! Kickstarter fulfilments and freelance work has gone stratospheric. I wanted to take some time to shout out some friends of MonkeyBlood who are running Kickstarters right now. Here they are (click pics to take you to the campaign pages):

North Wind Adventures – Hyperborea 3E

Jeff Talanian is taking his fantastic Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerors of Hyperborea game to a revamped ‘third edition’. The game is split into different books now which should make table play much easier. A Player’s Manual, Referee’s Manual, and an Atlas. Great stuff!

The campaign ends on 1st August and I am super excited to see if Jeff can hopefully hit $200k funding. That would be amazing!

Doug Cole and the Steve Jackson Games’ GURPS 2021 PDF Challenge

The good folks over at Black Cats Gaming are running a campaign for Cursed Captains of Cthulhu. A swashbuckling tabletop roleplaying game pitting your pirate crew against the eldritch forces of Cthulhu in the Golden Age of Piracy.

I’ve been involved in the cartography, so why not take a look? It’s funded and ends on 30th July.
